War-Torn

Yes! Recorded in Massachusetts with my cousin Hannah Brown doing harmony. Have a listen, I think you’ll enjoy it.

I was born in a war-torn land by the ocean
Hand in hand we ran in fields that were open
And my mother worried about our cover but let us play in them.

I was torn in a war-born existence between the virtue of innocence and the sin of ignorance
But I was knocked into focus by the shock of the explosives too late to do a thing

Where were you when the bombs fell on our heads?
When the silence melted everything we knew?
Where were you when we lost them to the predictions that suddenly came true?

I was raised in a war-crazed land of Cain
With marks on our foreheads and patches on our jackets
I was saved by the gaze of a woman stolen in a moment
Born of an ache to feel something real again

Where were you when their lines held against our offences?
When we knelt to our God asking Him to save us
From the hell that was upon us,
Raining down on us like fire bombs.

And everyone in the trench was fighting
And the sky was lit with lightning
And, Oh my God! They are gonna see where we are hiding!
And our silence cannot save us
In the fields they will locate us
It’s the rapid beating of our hearts that finally betrayed us
And I am scared now!
I am scared now!
Will we come out unscathed if we come out?
I am scared now!
I am scared now!
Will we come out unscathed if we come out?

I will die on this war line
Eyes open to the sky, which right now looks just like the ocean
Hoping that my mother is on the other side and remembers what I look like
It’s been so long.
I am scared now.
I am scared now.
Will I come out unscathed if I come out?
I am scared now.
I am scared now.
Will I come out unscathed if I come out?
