Hot off the press! This a song I busted out yesterday and (home) recorded today. It will likely be part of a recording project I’m scheming for the future.
The Olive Branch We’re Offered
I saw you naked and bare
Without your hair of strength to guide you
I saw you naked and exposed
Without your robe of sobriety to hide you
But in your eyes I saw myself
And I was naked too
In your eyes I saw that I was just as see through
We are not quite sober
And we are inching closer
What have we to lose but this dove?
And the olive branch it offers us?
And I watched that night as it took flight
To wait out this storm that could last forever
And we locked eyes and kissed it goodbye
With lips as soft as feathers
You saw me naked and exposed
With my clothes still on my shoulders
You saw me naked and bare
And you couldn’t bear to look any closer
Because in my eyes you saw yourself
And you saw an imposter
In my eyes you saw that I
Could see it better
But we are not quite sober
And we are inching closer
What could we care for the somewhere over the rainbow we’re told would be there if we don’t?
We watched that night as the dove took flight
To wait out the storm we endeavored
We locked eyes and kissed it goodbye
With lips as soft as feathers
